Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally, a flagbearer aspirant for the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and former Minister of Internal Affairs, has issued a powerful public condemnation of the alarming spread of Kush, Tramadol, and other dangerous drugs across Sierra Leone, directly implicating key government institutions for the failure to control the crisis.
In a video message widely circulated on social media, Hon. Tarawally described the situation as a “national menace” that is destroying families, lives, and the future of young people across the country. “This is a failure in the control of Crime,” he asserted.
Tarawally, who is reportedly the first ruling party stakeholder to speak out against the drug crisis, criticized government offices that he claims have allowed the drug trade to “flourish unabated.” He pointed out that drug use is not endemic in the country, suggesting the crisis is a failure of state control.
He directly criticized several institutions, including The Office of the Vice President, under whose supervision the Internal Affairs Ministry falls, The Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the Transnational Organize Crime Unit (TOCU) and the Ministry of Health.
Tarawally accused these institutions of neglecting their constitutional duties to protect the people, stating: “This is organized crime, and the syndicates behind Kush are not being held accountable.”
He also specifically condemned the Pharmacy Board for allegedly allowing the importation and unchecked sale of drugs like Tramadol without prescriptions, which he says further worsens the addiction crisis.
Lamenting the societal toll, Tarawally highlighted how university students, mothers, and fathers have abandoned their homes to live under bridges and in ghettos due to drug addiction. “The use of Kush and hard drugs is killing our youth. Homes are being torn apart. We are heading into dangerous times if this is not addressed,” he warned.
Hon. Tarawally urged President Julius Maada Bio to step in decisively and take appropriate action.
“You are the custodian of the Constitution. You must act now to protect the lives and future of our youth. Sierra Leone cannot afford another war, not of guns, but of addiction,” he concluded, calling on civil society, religious leaders, and the media to support nationwide efforts to combat the drug spread.

Well said Sir thanks 👍
The office of the VP and his tribesmen are responsible for the spread of harmful drugs like kush and more especially tramado. The president niece is also a drug lord Admire Bio.
