A Sierra Leonean academic, Simeon Stevenson Turay, has been awarded a Study Visit Grant from the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF), making him one of the foundation’s Next Generation Visiting Scholars.

Turay, a lecturer and researcher at Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone, recently completed his doctoral thesis in Highway and Transportation Engineering at the Regional Transport Research and Education Centre, Kumasi (TRECK), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana.

He received a strong recommendation for the grant from his academic advisor and the founder of TRECK, Rev. Ing. Prof. Charles Anum Adams. The VREF program supports research and educational institutions dedicated to promoting equitable access and sustainable urban mobility.

As part of the grant, Turay will be hosted at the School of Transport and Logistics, Lagos State University (LASU), Nigeria, where he will undertake advanced research in transport infrastructure and mobility systems.

This achievement places Turay among emerging scholars contributing to sustainable transportation development across Africa.
