The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has received a formal complaint regarding an alleged domestic violence case in Sierra Leone, submitted by Female in Africa, Sierra Leone Chapter, on 29 November, Day 5 of the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
The complaint alleges that Amadu Nallo assaulted his wife, rendering her unconscious, and that he has prevented her from leaving their home while reportedly threatening her life. According to the organization, the case requires urgent attention to ensure the safety and protection of the alleged victim.
Female in Africa further alleges that Mr. Nallo boasted about the assault on social media, engaged in extramarital activity while still married, and has used violence as a means of control. The NGO has called on the CID to conduct a prompt investigation, secure evidence, provide protection for the survivor, and take legal action if warranted. The organization requested acknowledgment of the complaint and an update within 72 hours.
Domestic violence remains a persistent challenge in Sierra Leone despite sustained national and NGO efforts to combat it. Survivors often face barriers to reporting, limited access to medical and psychosocial services, and societal pressures that can discourage disclosure.
The submission of the complaint comes during the 16 Days of Activism, an annual campaign aimed at raising awareness and strengthening measures against gender-based violence. Authorities have not yet released a statement on the complaint.
