Renowned political figure and media influencer, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, has drawn the attention of Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Francis Ben Kaifala, to what she describes as “serious crimes” related to Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh’s recent trip to Spain with prominent Sierra Leonean rapper, King Boss LA.
In a strongly worded statement posted on her social media platform, Blyden criticized the Chief Minister’s actions, accusing him of using public funds to gain “cheap political popularity” ahead of upcoming political contests.
She argued that such actions not only misuse the country’s resources but also undermine the integrity of the nation’s budget. Blyden’s comments follow Sengeh’s remarks, where he reportedly claimed that as long as he can explain how public money is spent, there would be no wrongdoing, even if the expenditure is significant.
“Francis Ben Kaifala knows the salient issues of using our money (whether locally or overseas obtained) to hoist up selected youths in order for any Minister to get cheap political popularity and undue political benefit for himself amongst youthful voters,” Blyden stated.
She went on to assert that these acts, which she described as “fitti fatta” (wasteful spending), could lead to various forms of corruption, including abuse of office, authority, and position.
Blyden outlined several potential corruption offenses she believes Sengeh’s actions could fall under, including “using office to improperly confer an advantage on another” and “seeking to give someone unlawful advantage over others in the music industry just in order to gain political dividends.”
She also accused Sengeh of granting benefits without transparent procedures, calling these actions a direct abuse of the national budget.
She concluded her statement by inviting discussion on the matter but cautioned against uncivil language. “If anyone wants to discuss the above possible acts of clear corruption by Maada Bio’s Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh, who swallows billions and billions of Leones from the National Budget as he pursues his doomed presidential ambitions, come on and let’s chat over on my Facebook page, but let’s stick to the issues and stay civilized,” Blyden wrote.
