Supporters of Guinea’s transitional leader, General Mamadi Doumbouya, have officially launched a political support group in Sierra Leone under the banner Guinée Nouvelle, marking a growing mobilisation of Guineans in the sub-region and the diaspora ahead of Guinea’s presidential election.

The launch, held in Freetown on Sunday 14th December 2025, brought together members of the Guinean community, campaign officials, and diplomatic representatives, all pledging support for General Doumbouya’s leadership and his vision for a transformed Guinea.

Speaking at the event, the Director of Campaign for Guinée Nouvelle in Sierra Leone described General Doumbouya as a “celebrated leader” whose assumption of power through a military takeover ushered in what he termed renewed momentum in governance, economic management, healthcare delivery, media freedom, and national cohesion in Guinea. He said the changes witnessed since the transition were driven by popular support from ordinary Guineans determined to see their country progress.

He also paid tribute to the Chief Patron of the campaign in Sierra Leone, Osman Jalloh, commending his leadership and commitment to mobilising Guineans in support of the movement.

In his remarks, Mr. Jalloh highlighted the long-standing relationship between Sierra Leone and Guinea, describing the two countries as natural partners bound by geography, history, and shared struggles. He recalled periods when both nations supported each other during times of peace and conflict, noting that this solidarity continues to define bilateral relations.

Mr. Jalloh further stated that Guineans residing in Sierra Leone are united with their compatriots at home and across the diaspora in backing General Doumbouya. He expressed confidence that, come 28 December, Guineans would turn out in large numbers to vote for him as President of the Republic of Guinea.

According to the Chief Patron, General Doumbouya’s leadership philosophy of “one people, one country” has played a critical role in bridging divisions that once threatened national unity.

He added that the close proximity between Sierra Leone and Guinea symbolises the depth of their relationship, noting that travelling from Kambia to the Guinean border underscores how closely connected the two countries are.

Also addressing the gathering was Kadiatou Kouroma, First Chancellor and Chargé d’Affaires (Political) at the Embassy of Guinea. She thanked attendees for their participation and said General Doumbouya remains committed to transforming Guinea into a nation every citizen can be proud of. She praised the strong friendship between Sierra Leone and Guinea and urged Guineans living in Sierra Leone to remain law-abiding and respectful, adding that Sierra Leoneans living in Guinea are equally known for their good conduct.

Ms. Kouroma concluded by calling on Guineans at home and abroad to support General Doumbouya in the upcoming election.

The campaign was officially launched by Mamoud Musa Geng, Special Envoy from Guinea and President of the Nouvelle Guinée Campaign Group for General Mamadi Doumbouya. In his keynote address, he urged Guineans in Guinea, the diaspora, and those who have made Sierra Leone their home to vote massively for General Doumbouya, whom he described as a leader with the passion and energy to drive national transformation.

General Mamadi Doumbouya, since assuming power, has prioritised national unity and engagement with Guineans both at home and abroad, with supporters describing his approach as one that places development and reconciliation at the centre of Guinea’s future.
