On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, police officers stationed at the Maforkie Checkpoint successfully intercepted a vehicle carrying a significant haul of suspected illicit drugs.
The Toyota vehicle, registered under the number AZG 503, was stopped during a routine inspection at the checkpoint. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 239 packets of Tramadol and six compressed parcels believed to contain cannabis sativa. The drugs were carefully secured by police as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal trafficking in the region.
The driver of the vehicle, however, managed to escape during the operation and is currently being pursued by law enforcement. Despite this, both the vehicle and the recovered narcotics have been confiscated and are now in police custody for further investigation.

This operation is notably part of a broader initiative to enhance security and tackle crime, particularly drug trafficking, as authorities increase their vigilance throughout the festive period.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Chief Superintendent Alphonso A. Fambulleh, the Local Unit Commander of the Port Loko Division.

The police have confirmed that they are continuing their investigations into the incident and have vowed to intensify efforts to disrupt the flow of illegal drugs in the region.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to assist in the ongoing fight against crime.
