Presidential Spokesperson Hon. Alpha Kanu has said that each of Sierra Leone’s 14 districts has been provided with at least 20 tractors and harvesters as part of government efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector under President Julius Maada Bio’s 2025 agenda.
Speaking while outlining the government’s plans, Kanu stated that the tractors are available for public service and are intended to support farmers and create jobs across the country.
“In every district in this country, we have at least 20 tractors that I know,” he said, adding that the equipment is meant to benefit citizens who need agricultural services.
Kanu maintained that the availability of the tractors is not just on paper. He urged the public to verify the information by visiting districts such as Port Loko, where he said the machines can be physically seen.
According to Kanu, the tractors are under the control of the Ministry of Agriculture, which works with private contractors known as Machinery Operators to manage and deliver tractor services. He explained that these operators are responsible for renting out the tractors to individuals and groups who require them.
In Port Loko District, Kanu named Top Man Enterprises as the company responsible for managing the tractors. He said the company rents the machines to farmers and other individuals who need agricultural services.
He also spoke about government-supported initiatives designed to help farmers who may not be able to afford the cost of renting tractors. Kanu referenced the FSRP project, explaining that farmers can be organized into cooperatives and supported with tractor services through the initiative. He encouraged citizens to make themselves available to benefit from the program.
In addition, Kanu mentioned FM Enterprises as the company in charge of tractors in Kambia District. He noted that the district has not only the minimum 20 tractors but also “three or four combined harvesters.”
Kanu’s statements were made in his capacity as Presidential Spokesperson while discussing President Bio’s agricultural priorities for 2025, with emphasis on improving access to farming machinery and boosting productivity nationwide.
