The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) has released its Provisional Annual Report on Vital Events for the year ending December 31, 2025, detailing nationwide statistics on births, deaths, marriages, divorces, and adoptions recorded during the period.

According to the report, a total of 306,057 live births were registered across the country in 2025. Of these, 149,968 (49%) were males and 156,089 (51%) females, representing a sex ratio of 96. The Authority also recorded 3,739 stillbirths during the year under review.

A total of 17,905 deaths were documented, comprising 10,280 males (57%) and 7,625 females (43%). The report notes that 32% of the deaths (5,652) occurred among persons aged 60 years and above, while 2,697 deaths (15%) were among children aged 0–4 years.

The Authority further reported 755 marriages registered nationwide in 2025. Of these, Christian marriages accounted for 54% (408), Islamic marriages 23% (174), civil marriages 17% (128), and customary marriages 6% (45).

A total of 60 divorces were recorded during the same period. Civil marriages accounted for the highest share of divorce registrations at 35% (21), followed by Christian marriages and Islamic marriages at 30% each (18 respectively), while customary marriages accounted for 5% (3).

The report also highlights 160 adoption cases registered across the country in 2025. Of these, 38% (61) involved males and 62% (99) involved females.

In its conclusion, the NCRA encouraged citizens and foreign residents to continue registering vital events such as births, deaths, marriages, divorces, adoptions, and nullities as they occur, in order to maintain an accurate national demographic record.
