A major drug bust occurred in Magburaka on Wednesday, December 31, when police officers arrested a suspect found with a large amount of Tramadol.
The suspect, identified as Abubakaar Koroma, a resident of New London, Magburaka, was apprehended at the Magburaka Lorry Park. According to police reports, the arrest followed a tip-off that led officers to the scene.
During the operation, police discovered that Koroma was in possession of ten gross (1200 tablets) of Tramadol, a potent prescription drug, without lawful authority.

The seizure of the drug is a serious concern, as Tramadol is frequently misused for recreational purposes, posing health and safety risks to individuals and the community.
The police have confirmed that the matter is currently under investigation, and further details regarding the suspect’s intentions and possible connections to a larger trafficking network are being examined.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether Koroma will face additional charges or if there are further arrests related to the incident.

The misuse of tramadol by some Sierra Leoneans is sharply on the rise in the West African country. The painkiller drug is popular in Urban areas, especially among young people who abuse it for pleasure in most cases. Authorities are cracking down on peddlers in the capital, Freetown and other parts of the country. However, the drug is still prevalent in some local communities.
