The National Public Health Agency (NPHA) has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging an outbreak of anthrax in Port Loko District.

In a public health advisory issued on Tuesday, 14th January 2026, the Agency clarified that there is no confirmed or suspected case of anthrax in the district. The advisory follows the circulation of an audio message warning the public against consuming meat, claiming an ongoing outbreak.

According to the NPHA, the Ministry of Health and the Livestock Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security have jointly verified the situation and confirmed that no official laboratory report or surveillance data supports the claims made in the viral message.

The Agency strongly urged members of the public to disregard the misinformation and refrain from sharing unverified content that could cause unnecessary panic and disrupt livelihoods, especially those dependent on livestock and meat trading.

Health authorities emphasized that routine disease surveillance remains ongoing across all districts to ensure public safety and wellbeing. The public has been advised to rely solely on information disseminated through recognized government communication channels for accurate and timely health updates.

The NPHA further encouraged citizens to report any suspected public health concerns to their nearest health facility, district health office, or through the Agency’s official hotline.
