The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security, in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Immigration Department, has announced that all non-citizens currently holding valid Residence and Work Permits are required to submit their permits for replacement with newly introduced Biometric Residence and Work Permit Cards.

According to a joint public notice, affected permit holders have forty-five (45) working days, up to March 1, 2026, to comply with the directive. Authorities confirmed that the replacement exercise will be conducted at no cost to applicants.

The initiative, officials said, is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the security, integrity, and harmonization of data relating to Residence and Work Permits across relevant state institutions.

To qualify for the biometric replacement, all affected non-citizens are required to submit their current valid Residence and Work Permits, along with proof of payment, within the stipulated timeframe.

Submissions may be made in person at the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Work Permit Office, New England Ville, Freetown, or at the Sierra Leone Immigration Department, Residence Permit Office, 14 Gloucester Street, 4th Floor, Freetown. Applicants may also submit their documents online through the official portal.
