A delegation of Spanish medical specialists from the Surgeons in Action Foundation has paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, following their arrival in Sierra Leone to continue a series of free surgical operations at the Police Hospital in Kingtom.

The visit took place on Monday, 2 February 2026, and marked the Foundation’s 12th medical mission to Sierra Leone within the past three years. The team was formally introduced to the IGP by the Medical Superintendent of the Police Hospital, ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh.

Dr. Konteh informed the IGP that the visiting specialists plan to handle more than 200 medical cases during their stay, including surgeries for conditions such as goitre, lipoma, hernia, appendicitis, and other general surgical cases. He acknowledged the continued support of the IGP, noting that his leadership has contributed to improvements in infrastructure, equipment, and overall service delivery at the Police Hospital.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Team Lead Dr. Eduardo Pera Del Pozo expressed appreciation to the Sierra Leone Police and hospital management for the warm reception and ongoing collaboration. He explained that the Surgeons in Action Foundation conducts similar humanitarian missions in several African countries and emphasized the importance of working alongside local medical professionals to strengthen capacity and improve patient outcomes. He also introduced members of the visiting medical team.

In his response, IGP William Fayia Sellu commended the Surgeons in Action Foundation for its sustained commitment to providing free medical services in Sierra Leone. He described the partnership between the Foundation and the Sierra Leone Police as beneficial to both the Force and the wider public, noting that past missions have attracted patients from within Sierra Leone as well as neighboring countries such as Liberia, Guinea, and Côte d’Ivoire.

The IGP also highlighted the gradual transformation of the Police Hospital into a modern healthcare facility, attributing part of the progress to donations, technical support, and expertise provided by the Spanish surgeons over the years. As part of the engagement, he presented the delegation with medical certificates authorizing them to practice in Sierra Leone in line with national regulations.

The visit concluded with a photo session between the IGP and members of the delegation, marking the start of another phase of free surgical services at the Police Hospital in Kingtom.
