Njala University has formally introduced its newly appointed Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patrick Sawyer, to the student body in a ceremony held at the Njala campus.

The event was attended by the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Bashiru Koroma, campus administrators, and students.

The meeting began with opening prayers, after which Professor Sawyer was introduced by the Njala Campus Deputy Registrar, Tony Habib. In his address, Professor Sawyer promised a student-centered administration, pledging to keep his office open to student enquiries and suggestions. He expressed commitment to fostering a new era at the Njala campus and said he plans to meet with students regularly to hear their concerns and ideas.

Professor Koroma welcomed Professor Sawyer and described his appointment as a “wind of change” for the university. He encouraged students to pay their fees and register ahead of the upcoming exams, dismissing rumours of postponements and confirming that exams will begin on February 16, 2026. He noted that first-year students may write on a separate date, which will be communicated later.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted some of Professor Sawyer’s early interventions, including providing 24-hour solar energy to the DVC office and improving the power supply to the Deputy Registrar’s office and the University radio station. He urged students to focus on their studies and called for a standing ovation in appreciation of Professor Sawyer’s contributions.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from Deputy Registrar Tony Habib, who reminded students to pay fees only through the university’s designated bank account or via Afrimoney.

He also confirmed that first-year students will take their exams two weeks after continuing students complete theirs.
