The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has announced a landmark decision aimed at boosting women’s participation in football leadership across the country.
In a press release issued on Thursday, 19 February 2026, SLFA President Babadi Kamara confirmed the immediate waiver of all coaching licence fees for female coaches in Sierra Leone.
According to the statement, the Executive Committee approved the policy as part of a broader strategy to strengthen women’s football and remove financial barriers that have historically limited female involvement in technical roles. Under the new directive, all women enrolling in SLFA coaching licence programmes—from Licence D through Licence A—will be exempted from paying course fees throughout the tenure of the current Executive Committee.
The Association described the move as a deliberate institutional intervention designed to promote equality of opportunity and expand the pool of certified female coaches nationwide. By investing in technical leadership, the SLFA believes it can accelerate grassroots development, improve coaching standards, and ensure sustainable growth of the game.
President Kamara emphasized that the long-term development of women’s football requires structured support not only for players but also for those guiding them from the sidelines. He noted that empowering more women to take up coaching roles would create stronger pathways for young female footballers across the country.
The SLFA has therefore called on all eligible women interested in advancing their coaching careers to register for upcoming courses through officially designated SLFA channels.
