The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) is reportedly taking disciplinary action against a serving officer who allegedly ran as a candidate in the recent All People’s Congress (APC) lower-level elections.

Officer Hassan Sannah Kargbo, who is reportedly stationed in the Falaba District, was exposed when fellow political aspirants discovered his name on the party’s internal candidate list.

The revelation has sparked widespread discussion on social media and raised significant concerns among political observers regarding the neutrality and conduct of the country’s security personnel.

Under Sierra Leone’s law enforcement professional standards, members of the police force and other security services are strictly prohibited from participating in active, partisan politics. Security personnel are expected to maintain strict neutrality to effectively provide impartial protection and maintain order during electoral processes.

Political analysts have noted that if these allegations are confirmed, Officer Kargbo’s participation directly violates professional conduct requirements and risks undermining public confidence in the impartiality of the police force.

While reports indicate the SLP is initiating disciplinary procedures, neither the police leadership nor the All People’s Congress has issued a formal public statement addressing the incident.

The matter remains under intense public scrutiny. Stakeholders and citizens are calling for clarity from relevant authorities to reaffirm the sensitive, non-partisan role of law enforcement agencies in safeguarding electoral integrity.
