A delegation from Cricket Sierra Leone visited the Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, at his office at the Kingtom Police Barracks. led by Board Chairman Francis Trevor Samura.
The engagement focused on key issues affecting the development of cricket in Sierra Leone and explored areas of continued collaboration between the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and Cricket Sierra Leone.
Board Chairman Francis Trevor Samura said the purpose of the visit was to discuss matters of national importance to the growth of the sport. Key among the concerns raised was the condition of the Kingtom Police Playing Field, which serves as the team’s primary training and competition venue.

He explained that the field is currently occupied by several vehicles, restricting access and disrupting training sessions and match preparations. He appealed to the IGP to intervene, particularly at a time when an Indian company has expressed interest in sponsoring a major cricket competition in the country.
Additionally, he noted that clearing the field would create adequate space for the erection of canopies and other facilities, improve match-day organisation, and help attract larger crowds.
The Chairman also requested that the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA) be considered as an alternative venue for cricket matches, especially at weekends.
Also, he raised concerns regarding the conduct of a few police officers who are members of the cricket team, stating that their actions had reportedly affected team cohesion and operations.
In his response, IGP Sellu welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the recognition of the role played by police personnel in the development of cricket. He underscored the positive contribution of officers and their families, particularly those residing within the Kingtom Barracks community, in supporting Cricket Sierra Leone.
Addressing the issue of vehicles parked at the Kingtom Field, the IGP explained that the situation arose from an ongoing nationwide operation to tow and remove abandoned vehicles from the streets. The Kingtom Field, he said, had been identified as a temporary holding site.
He assured the delegation that plans were already underway to relocate the vehicles and restore full use of the field.
Regarding the alleged misconduct of certain police personnel, IGP Sellu encouraged the organisation to submit a formal complaint to the appropriate disciplinary department within the force to enable due process and any necessary action.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to sustained engagement and collaboration, particularly towards transforming the Kingtom Field into a modern, multi-disciplinary sporting facility to serve the wider community.
