A police officer has reportedly told the High Court in Freetown that a murder suspect admitted responsibility for the death of Ibrahim Sorie Kamara during police questioning.

Detective Police Constable 17822 Kargbo of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Grafton Division made the disclosure while testifying in the ongoing murder trial of Abdul Bangura before Justice Mohamed Bawoh at High Court No. 2.

While giving evidence, the witness told the court that on February 3, 2025, both the accused and the deceased, Ibrahim Sorie Kamara, were taken into police custody. According to the officer, Kamara had sustained injuries to his arm which were allegedly inflicted by Bangura.

Kargbo explained that a medical form was issued to document the injuries and the defendant was subsequently detained by the police.

The witness further testified that the following morning the defendant’s father visited the police and reported that a confrontation between the two men had resulted in Kamara’s death.

Kargbo told the court that after the report, the police conducted further investigations, including a post-mortem examination at Connaught Hospital on February 19, 2025. He said the medical certificate from the post-mortem examination was later produced and tendered in court as evidence.

Continuing his testimony, the police officer said that on February 20, 2025, investigators cautioned and interviewed the accused in connection with the matter. A progress report was later prepared and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

He stated that on March 11, 2025, the police obtained a voluntary charge statement from the accused, which was also admitted in evidence before the court.

During cross-examination by defense counsel C. Taylor Young, the police witness confirmed that the defendant admitted to the killing during the course of the investigation.

The prosecution, led by A. B. N. Taylor, requested additional time to present further witnesses in the matter. Following the submissions, Justice Bawoh adjourned the case to March 17, 2026, for the continuation of the trial.
