The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has hosted a delegation of students from the Nigerian Defence College (NDC) who are currently on a study tour in Sierra Leone to examine the role of the extractive industry in national development.

The delegation, led by Air Commodore E.O. Oludicun, visited the NRA to gain deeper insight into how revenues generated from the extractive sector contribute to the country’s economic growth and how the Extractive Industry Revenue Unit (EIRU) supports revenue collection and management.

Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Commissioner General, the Director of Human Resources at the NRA, Dora N. Tucker, highlighted the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and Sierra Leone. She noted that the two countries share strong cultural ties and acknowledged the role Nigerians played in supporting Sierra Leone during the civil war.

During the engagement, the Assistant Commissioner of the Extractive Industry Revenue Unit at the NRA, Abu B. Tarawalie, provided an overview of how the authority collects taxes, royalties, and levies from mining operations. He stressed that revenue generated from the extractive sector remains a critical component in supporting Sierra Leone’s economic development.

The visit provided the NDC students with practical exposure to the institutional mechanisms used by the NRA to manage revenues from natural resources, further enriching their academic study of governance and development in the region.
