Retired Sierra Leone international footballer Alhaji Kamara, popularly known as Andriano, has commenced the installation of a modern six-aside artificial turf football field in Karfu Bullom Chiefdom, Lungai, in northern Sierra Leone.

The initiative is widely seen as a significant step toward promoting grassroots football development and creating opportunities for young talents within the community. Work on the facility has already begun, with preparations underway to lay the artificial turf that will transform the playing surface into a modern mini-stadium suitable for training sessions, youth tournaments, and community sporting events.

Residents of the chiefdom have welcomed the project, noting that the area has long lacked a proper football facility despite the strong passion for the game among young people.

The former striker, who enjoyed a successful career with the national team, the Sierra Leone national football team, has continued to support football development even after retiring from professional play. Observers say his latest initiative reflects a growing trend of former players investing in grassroots infrastructure to nurture the next generation of athletes.

Local leaders in Karfu Bullom Chiefdom have praised Kamara’s effort, describing it as a meaningful contribution that will not only promote sports but also strengthen community unity and youth engagement.

Once completed, the artificial turf facility is expected to become a hub for football activities in the area, potentially attracting local competitions and helping to identify promising young players who could eventually represent clubs and even the national team in the future.
