The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has issued a warning to proprietors and heads of private senior secondary schools over delays in uploading candidates’ data to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Batch Registration System (BRS) ahead of the upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
In a public notice released on Tuesday, the ministry expressed concern that several private schools have failed to comply with repeated directives to upload valid candidate information to the online registration portal. It warned that such delays could jeopardize students’ chances of sitting the examination and undermine efforts to ensure equitable access to public exams.
The ministry urged parents and guardians to contact their children’s schools to verify whether registration details have been properly submitted, noting that delays at this stage could result in serious consequences, including possible disqualification from the examination.
School administrators were also cautioned that non-compliance may attract personal liability. According to MBSSE, defaulting school heads could face administrative and regulatory sanctions under the Education Act 2023.
The ministry further stated that no appeals or exceptions will be considered once the registration portal closes, underscoring the urgency for all affected schools to act promptly.
MBSSE reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students’ academic interests and maintaining accountability within the education system. Schools encountering challenges have been advised to seek immediate assistance from their respective District Education Offices.
The notice also referenced an official list of non-compliant schools.
