The Sierra Leone Football Association has taken a significant step toward strengthening grassroots football development with the launch of a FIFA-backed goalkeeping programme aimed at shaping the country’s future stars.
The initiative, part of the FIFA Development Programme, will host an Elite Youth Goalkeeper Coaches’ Workshop from April 13 to 17 at the SLFA Academy in Freetown.
Two experienced international instructors, Alejandro Alfredo Heredia and Cameron Euston Cox, have arrived in the country to lead the intensive training sessions. Both bring extensive global expertise in modern goalkeeping techniques and youth development.
Welcoming the instructors, SLFA Technical Director John Keister emphasized the importance of investing in youth development, particularly in specialized roles like goalkeeping, which remain critical to building competitive national teams.
The five-day workshop, themed ”Supporting youth goalkeeper coaches to build a bright future for tomorrow’s superstars,” is designed to equip local coaches with up-to-date training methodologies, tactical insights, and best practices in goalkeeper development.
Participants are expected to benefit from hands-on sessions, theoretical learning, and practical demonstrations that will enhance their capacity to train young goalkeepers across the country.
The programme reflects SLFA’s broader commitment to aligning with international standards and strengthening the technical foundation of football in Sierra Leone, with a focus on long-term success at both club and national levels.
