Key stakeholders in Kenema have held a high-level meeting with Mayor Thomas Baio to discuss reconciliation and possible resolutions in the ongoing case involving musician LAJ.
The meeting, which took place at the Mayor’s residence, was chaired by DJ Snow and began on a solemn note with a minute of silence before deliberations commenced.
Discussions quickly revealed a divide among participants. While some stakeholders advocated for forgiveness following LAJ’s reported apology, others urged caution, citing the seriousness of the matter, including alleged threats linked to the case.
A representative of the Sierra Leone People’s Party, Fatima, emphasized that although forgiveness is important, it should not be rushed under sensitive circumstances. Meanwhile, John Lamin of the Radio Callers Association argued that prolonging the issue could lead to unnecessary waste of time and resources, calling for a swift resolution.
Chairman DJ Snow acknowledged the difficulty of mediating between opposing sides but reiterated his support for the Mayor’s eventual decision.
In his remarks, Mayor Baio maintained a firm stance, stressing that the issue is not about financial compensation but accountability. He outlined key conditions for consideration, including a signed undertaking by LAJ, a public apology through video and local radio platforms in Kenema, and the possibility of a performance ban within the eastern region.
Emotions ran high during the meeting as family members and supporters of LAJ reportedly pleaded for leniency, appealing directly to the Mayor. However, no commitments were made.
The Mayor concluded by stating that no final decision has been reached and cautioned that LAJ’s release is not guaranteed at the next court hearing.
The situation remains under close public watch as residents of Kenema await further developments.
