Students from St. Peter’s Agriculture Secondary School took first place in both the quiz and debate segments of a civic competition hosted Monday by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education at the local District Council Hall.

The academic competition is part of the Ministry’s ongoing Civic Day Series, an initiative designed to test and promote the civic knowledge of secondary school students across the country. Five local schools participated in Monday’s events: Christ Solutions Academy, Wegdam High School, Magbonkoni Community School, St. Peter’s Agriculture Secondary School, and the Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood (SLMB) Secondary School.

Following three standard rounds and a sudden-death tie-breaker, Zainab O.A. Kamara of St. Peter’s won the quiz segment with a total of 31 points. Billal Timbo of SLMB secured second place with 28 points.

In the debate segment, students from four participating schools argued national policy topics, including the Free Quality Education initiative, the “Feed Salone” agricultural program, and the national census.

After two rounds of debate, Samura Momoh A., also representing St. Peter’s, claimed first place with 15 points. Abdulai Sillah of SLMB and Sarah Sankoh of Wegdam High School placed second and third, respectively.

First-place winners Kamara and Momoh each received a cash prize of NLe 2,000, a certificate of participation, and promotional census apparel. Second-place finishers were awarded NLe 1,500, while third-place took home NLe 1,000. All participating students received certificates.

The student competition marked the first day of Kamakwie’s Civic Day Series. The program will continue with a town hall meeting at the Council Hall, where more than ten government officials are scheduled to address local residents on regional governance.
