Freetown International Airport has conducted its 2026 simulation exercise, a high-stakes emergency training designed to test the preparedness, coordination, and response time of airport personnel, first responders, and medical teams.
The exercise, which centered on a staged aircraft crash scenario, involved multiple simulated victims, including individuals portrayed as critically injured, others with minor injuries, and some fatalities.
The setup was intended to reflect a realistic large-scale emergency and evaluate how effectively responders could manage such a situation under pressure.
According to the airport’s operations team, the primary aim of the drill was to assess and strengthen the airport’s emergency response systems.
The exercise brought together various departments and response units, all working in coordination to manage the simulated crisis from initial alert through to medical evacuation and incident control.
The operations team reported that the simulation exercise was a success. They noted that the coordinated efforts demonstrated strong teamwork, effective communication, and a high level of professionalism among all participants.
The exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by Freetown International Airport to ensure that all emergency units remain fully prepared to respond swiftly and efficiently to any major incident.
