Sierra Leonean swimmer Ola has been selected to represent the country at the upcoming Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 following a period of marked improvement in her performance since the Paris 2024 Olympics, supported by an international training scholarship.

The 26-year-old Olympian benefited from a programme under World Aquatics, which enabled her to train at the Thanyapura High Performance Swimming Centre in Thailand.

The training exposure has contributed to improvements in her competitive abilities across multiple swimming strokes, as reflected in her recent performances at Asian competitions.

Her most recent competition at the 68th MILO/MAS Malaysia Swimming Championships, held at the National Aquatics Centre Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur, highlighted her progress.

The results from the championship strengthened her case for national selection, according to performance data from the event.

Competition records indicate that Ola posted significant improvements in her race times. She reduced her 100m breaststroke time by 10 seconds, recorded a two-second improvement in both the 50m butterfly and freestyle events, and improved by four seconds in the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke. She also achieved a three-second improvement in the 50m breaststroke.

In addition to these gains, Ola set a new national record in the women’s 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:42.10, marking a key milestone in her development.

With these results, Ola is expected to compete in the women’s 50m and 100m freestyle events at the Glasgow Games, positioning herself as a stronger contender on the international stage.

The performance figures and competition outcomes form the primary basis for her selection, reflecting the impact of international training support on Sierra Leone’s swimming performance.
