A major fire outbreak at Kamayama in Lumley, west of Freetown on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, destroyed several homes and properties, leaving many families homeless and counting heavy losses.
According to reports from the scene by Africa Young Voices (AYV), eyewitnesses alleged that the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault linked to supply lines operated by Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).
The inferno reportedly spread rapidly through the affected area, consuming houses, household belongings, and other valuable properties before it could be brought under control.

Residents were seen trying to salvage whatever they could from the burning structures as thick smoke covered parts of the community.
Although no deaths were reported at the time of filing this report, several affected families were left devastated after losing their homes and personal belongings in the incident.

Eyewitnesses at the scene told AYV that unstable electricity supply and suspected electrical sparks may have triggered the blaze, but authorities are yet to officially confirm the exact cause of the fire.
Officials are expected to launch investigations into the incident to determine the source of the outbreak and assess the extent of the damage caused.
Meanwhile, affected residents are appealing for urgent assistance and support as they struggle to recover from the destruction caused by the fire.
