Tension erupted in the Kissy Dockyard community in eastern Freetown on Thursday, 15th May, following a demolition exercise that reportedly involved personnel of the Sierra Leone Police, resulting in violent confrontations between residents and security officers.
Residents of Kissy Dockyard have accused the Sierra Leone Police of carrying out a forceful demolition exercise on structures they claimed to have occupied for more than thirty years.
The operation, which residents said targeted disputed structures believed to be linked to the former Forest Industry quarters, reportedly descended into chaos after police allegedly fired tear gas to disperse agitated crowds, disrupting activities in the densely populated area.

Eyewitnesses and residents claimed the situation quickly escalated as agitated youths and community members responded by throwing stones and bottles, further heightening tensions between both sides.
The confrontation left several families distressed as normal activities were disrupted amid confusion and panic within the community.

According to some residents, the property in question is believed to have been sold to an Indian investor, a claim that has fueled ongoing concerns over ownership and the legality of the demolition exercise.
