Renowned Sierra Leonean singer, songwriter and performer Vida Green has publicly alleged that she was sexually assaulted and raped multiple times by a man she said she deeply trusted and once loved.
In a lengthy personal statement released publicly, the award-winning Afrobeat, Afropop and R&B artist, born Davida Green, said she decided to speak out after struggling silently with emotional, mental and psychological trauma for a long period.
“Today, I am choosing to speak because the silence is becoming heavier than the pain itself,” Vida Green stated. “I have carried this burden quietly for far too long, trying to survive something that has shattered me emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.”

The singer alleged that the accused individual was someone who had promised to protect and support her, but instead caused her “unimaginable pain.”
According to her statement, the alleged assaults occurred after she had undergone surgery and was still recovering physically and emotionally. Vida Green said she had informed the man that she was not ready to be sexually active due to the pain and healing process following her illness and surgery.
“I told him I was not ready to be sexually active because I needed time to recover from my surgery scars and regain my strength,” she stated, adding that she initially believed he understood her condition.
However, the artist alleged that her trust was later “broken violently.” “He tore my clothes, ripped my underwear, bruised and bit me, forcing himself on me while I begged him to stop,” she said in the statement.
Vida Green further claimed that during the alleged assault, she showed the man her surgery scars while pleading with him to stop, but he allegedly continued.
“I cried like a child because, in that moment, I genuinely thought I was going to die,” she added. The singer also explained why she had remained silent for so long, saying fear of public judgment and disbelief prevented her from speaking earlier.
“For a long time, I remained silent because I was terrified. Terrified that no one would believe me. Terrified that people would blame me instead,” she stated.
She said she feared being confronted with questions often directed at survivors of sexual violence, including accusations about why she trusted the individual involved.
Vida Green further disclosed that the experience has had a severe impact on her mental health and daily life.
“This experience has deeply affected my mental health. I feel emotionally exhausted, disconnected from myself, unable to sleep, unable to function normally, and trapped in a constant state of numbness and survival,” she said.
The artist stated that she was speaking publicly because remaining silent had become emotionally unbearable.
“I deserve to tell my truth. I deserve to be heard,” she wrote, adding that “no amount of manipulation, status, charm, or public perception should ever erase the reality of what was done to me.”
She concluded her statement with a message that read: “If anything happens to me, let it be known that I spoke my truth.”
As of the time of publication, no individual had been publicly identified by Vida Green in connection with the allegations, and there has been no official response from any accused party or law enforcement authority regarding the claims.
Sexual assault allegations are serious criminal matters, and under the law, every accused person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
