The Deputy Minister of Agriculture II, Mr. Sahr Hemore, on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), has joined the Sierra Leone Network on the Right to Food (SILNORF), Welthungerhilfe, and the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone (CSSL) to officially launch two major development projects in Moyamba District.

The projects launched are the Agricultural Productivity to Reduce Hunger among Rural Households (RAB) Project, implemented by SILNORF and Welthungerhilfe, and the Oasis on the Coast: Conservation of the Yawri Bay Project, implemented by the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone (CSSL).

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Hemore encouraged residents of Moyamba District to see agriculture beyond subsistence farming and embrace it as a viable pathway to achieving the government’s Feed Salone agenda.

“We should not only feed ourselves but also generate income to develop our homes and communities,” he stated.

The RAB Project aims to improve food security, nutrition, and hygiene through sustainable agricultural practices, inclusive economic opportunities, and equitable access to natural resources. It will benefit 30 rural communities across Moyamba District.

The Oasis on the Coast Project focuses on conserving the Yawri Bay ecosystem through community-based conservation initiatives and sustainable livelihood opportunities in eight target communities. The initiative seeks to empower local communities to actively contribute to the protection and sustainable management of the Yawri Bay Marine Protected Area (MPA).

Both projects are funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany.

The Ministry of Agriculture reaffirmed its commitment to supporting agricultural and livelihood development in rural communities while promoting environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable natural resource management across Sierra Leone.
