The Government of Sierra Leone has facilitated the reception, temporary care, and safe return of nine nationals from Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) member countries who arrived in the country from the United States under the Third Country National Agreement.

According to a statement issued on 4 June 2026 in Freetown, the individuals arrived on 20 May and were received in accordance with established humanitarian standards and international protocols governing the protection and care of migrants.

The process was coordinated through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration with diplomatic missions, relevant government institutions, and Kenvah Solutions. During their stay in Sierra Leone, the nationals were provided with temporary accommodation, food, clothing, medical screening, psychosocial support, and other essential services.

The government noted that all necessary administrative, consular, and travel arrangements were completed before the individuals voluntarily returned safely to their respective countries of origin.

Authorities described the exercise as a demonstration of Sierra Leone’s commitment to regional cooperation, humanitarian responsibility, and the orderly management of migration.

They added that the process also reflects the country’s capacity to provide temporary protection and support while working with international partners to ensure safe and dignified solutions for persons in transit.
