The Ministry of Youth Affairs, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has launched a recruitment drive for drivers to join Sierra Ride, a new ride-hailing initiative aimed at expanding safe, reliable, and accessible transportation services across Sierra Leone.
According to the Ministry, the initiative seeks to create employment opportunities for drivers while promoting the use of technology-driven transport services. The programme forms part of broader efforts to enhance mobility, support youth employment, and strengthen the country’s transport sector.
The recruitment campaign is targeting qualified drivers interested in joining the platform, with particular emphasis on inclusivity. The Ministry has encouraged women to apply, highlighting its commitment to promoting gender equality and increasing female participation in the transport industry.
Officials stated that the application deadline has been extended to June 12, allowing more prospective applicants the opportunity to submit their applications. Interested candidates are required to submit their application materials either by email or through hand delivery to the Ministry of Youth Affairs. Contact information has also been provided for individuals seeking additional details about the recruitment process.
The Sierra Ride initiative is expected to provide formal employment opportunities while offering commuters a modern and convenient transport service. The collaboration between the Government of Sierra Leone and UNDP reflects ongoing efforts to support job creation and economic empowerment, particularly among young people.
Stakeholders have described the initiative as a significant step toward modernizing transportation services and expanding access to income-generating opportunities across the country.
