Paul Amadu Sengeh Jr., brother of Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, is among 16 approved candidates set to contest the Malen Paramount Chieftaincy election in Pujehun District.

The election is scheduled to take place on June 14, 2026, under the supervision of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), which is overseeing the process for the selection of the district’s traditional leader.

According to information released following the completion of the candidate approval process, the approved aspirants are Paul Amadu Sengeh Jr., Hon. Siaka Sama, Maada Joe Kebbie, Festus J.K. Kortu, John Titus O’Neil, Thomas Sheku Sengeh, Hassan Jah Bankundo, Abu Amara Bankundo, Francis Sengova, Mustapha Salia Sengova, Gassimu Lebbie, Alhaji Jaward Kebbie, Amidu Kebbie, Henry Magbe, Bernard Kebbie and Adami Magbe.

The candidates successfully completed and passed the traditional declaration of rights process as required under the Chieftaincy Act of 2009. The exercise was managed by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs and was observed by representatives of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone.

The declaration of rights process is a key legal requirement in the selection of paramount chiefs and serves to verify the eligibility of aspirants seeking traditional leadership positions.

The forthcoming election is expected to attract significant attention within Malen Chiefdom, where the successful candidate will assume one of the most important traditional leadership roles in the district.

Electoral authorities and local government officials have indicated that the process is being conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Chieftaincy Act, 2009, with all approved candidates expected to participate in the June 14 poll.

The Malen Paramount Chieftaincy race is one of the most closely watched traditional leadership contests in Pujehun District, bringing together 16 contenders from recognized ruling families seeking the mandate to lead the chiefdom.
