The Ministry of Trade and Industry has hosted a capacity-building and validation workshop on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Regulatory Audit Report on Trade in Services.

The workshop was supported by the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sierra Leone, with funding from the African Development Bank Group (AfDB).

Discussions during the session focused on advancing regulatory reforms aimed at boosting the competitiveness of four priority services sectors: finance, communication, tourism, and business services.

Stakeholders emphasised the importance of closing domestic regulatory gaps and aligning compliance requirements as critical steps toward strengthening reforms and enhancing regional integration.

Participants also noted that these efforts are essential for unlocking Sierra Leone’s services export potential under the AfCFTA framework, positioning the country to better compete in the continental market.

The workshop forms part of ongoing initiatives to ensure that Sierra Leone maximises the benefits of the AfCFTA by improving its regulatory environment and promoting sustainable growth in the services sector.
