Sierra Leone hosted the 13th AFRITAC West2 Steering Committee meeting on June 18-19, bringing together officials from Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Gambia, and other West African countries.

The meeting focused on advancing institutional reforms in the region through capacity building in revenue administration, public financial management, monetary policy, financial supervision, and statistics.

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Madam Kenyeh Barlay, who chaired the meeting, thanked the International Monetary Fund’s AFRITAC West2 for its support in promoting economic growth and resilience in West Africa.

She noted that the center has helped Sierra Leone develop a database of capital investment projects, public investment management guidelines, and better alignment of budget processes with development planning.

Barlay also highlighted improvements in revenue administration, including new tools and procedures for tax collection, strengthening customs intelligence, and better management of state-owned enterprises.

During the two-day meeting, participants discussed the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Economic Outlook, reviewed AFRITAC West2’s achievements for the past year, and examined the work plan and budget for the coming year.

Panel discussions covered public financial management, monetary policy, banking supervision, statistics, leadership, and governance.

The Acting National Budget Director, Dr Ilara Mahdi, presented Sierra Leone’s public financial management reforms, covering institutional arrangements, legal frameworks, and reform priorities.

Other senior officials from Sierra Leone included the Principal Deputy Financial Secretary, the Deputy Governor, the Deputy Statistician General, and the Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority.
