The Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has published the 5th edition of its newsletter, detailing recent diplomatic activities and outlining its mission in the Middle East.

According to the “Ambassador’s Message” by His Excellency Ambassador Mohammed S. Barrie, the Embassy’s mandate covers the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Syria, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. The stated mission is to “represent, promote, and safeguard Sierra Leone’s interests” through structured diplomatic engagement, economic diplomacy, and consular services.

Ambassador Barrie, who assumed the post in December 2024 as Sierra Leone’s 8th Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, said the Embassy’s vision is to build relationships anchored in economic cooperation, trade expansion, cultural diplomacy, and collaborative security. He linked these efforts to President Dr Julius Maada Bio’s “Big Five” national development pillars for 2024–2030: agricultural transformation, human capital development, youth employment, technology and infrastructure, and transforming public service architecture.

The newsletter editorial, written by Information Attaché Alhaji Abubakarr Bah, notes several activities covered in the edition:

– Ambassador Barrie’s engagements with investors since taking office.
– A visit to Riyadh in August 2025 by Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Musa Timothy Kabba, who travelled as Special Envoy of President Bio.
– The arrival of Saudi Arabia’s first Ambassador to Sierra Leone this year.
– A US$100 million disbursement from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa to Sierra Leone’s Department of Agriculture to support food security.
– A comprehensive report on Sierra Leonean pilgrims during the 2025/1446 Hajj season.

The Embassy said it will continue publishing updates on its work and on bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
