The management of Sierraloaded wishes to address a recent fact-check published by Dubawa, which falsely claims that our platform originated an allegation regarding a major international drug seizure.
In a publication titled “FALSE: $582 million cocaine did not originate from Sierra Leone,” Dubawa inaccurately stated that: “Sierraloaded, alleged that the $582 million cocaine was shipped from Sierra Leone.”
Sierraloaded emphatically rejects this statement as false in its entirety.
At no point did Sierraloaded allege that the shipment originated from Sierra Leone. As a responsible news organization, we reported on a claim made by Crime Intel, a prominent X (formerly Twitter) account that tracks organized crime globally.
In both our written article and our video broadcast, we clearly maintained the distinction between a claim and an official fact. We explicitly noted to our audience: “The X (formerly Twitter) account Crime Intel @WorldCrimeIntel reported that the shipment came from Sierra Leone, though German investigators have not officially confirmed the specific country of origin, stating only that the container had arrived from West Africa.”
There is a fundamental journalistic difference between “alleging” a fact and “reporting” on a third-party claim while providing proper context. We are dismayed that Dubawa—an organization whose mandate is to ensure factual accuracy—failed to recognize this distinction. Instead of fact-checking the original source of the claim (Crime Intel), Dubawa chose to falsely accuse Sierraloaded of creating the allegation.
Sierraloaded has officially contacted Dubawa and the factchecker, Mohamed Dauda Kamara, demanding an immediate retraction and a public apology within 72 hours.
Dubawa’s publication has wrongfully used our brand name to defame and discredit our journalistic integrity. Should Dubawa fail to comply with our demands within the stipulated timeframe, Sierraloaded reserves the right to initiate civil proceedings for defamation and seek damages under the laws of Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
