The National Youth Commission (NAYCOM), in collaboration with the Obasanjo Skills Training Centre, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sierra Leone, and other partners, has convened a post-implementation debrief meeting at Mozza Resort to review outcomes from the first cohort of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) reintegration programme.
The meeting focused on assessing results, identifying implementation challenges, and agreeing on measures to strengthen future cohorts. Participants worked in groups to examine factors that contributed to success, gaps in delivery, and practical steps to improve reintegration outcomes for young people.
The discussion was led by NAYCOM Commissioner Joseph Maada Lahai and Dr. Pauline Macharia, Officer-in-Charge of IOM Sierra Leone, who highlighted priority areas for improving planning and implementation in the next phase. They stressed the need to align skills training with labour market demand, strengthen monitoring and post-training support, and improve coordination among partners.

Commissioner Lahai reaffirmed NAYCOM’s commitment to working with IOM and other stakeholders to ensure that skills training translates into sustainable opportunities for young people. He underscored the Commission’s role in policy alignment, oversight, and scaling successful interventions.
Dr. Macharia commended partners for what she described as a forward-looking dialogue and urged continued collaboration to translate lessons learned into concrete improvements for the next TVET cohort.
NAYCOM expressed appreciation to IOM Sierra Leone for convening the debrief and facilitating discussions on youth development. Partners agreed to integrate the recommendations into future planning and maintain regular coordination meetings to monitor progress and address implementation challenges.
