A 22-year-old motorcycle rider has been sentenced to four years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to stealing household items belonging to a former Member of Parliament.
Eric George was convicted on a single count of larceny by Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown after admitting to the offence.
According to the prosecution, led by DPC 17649 Brima Kargbo, the theft occurred between March 1 and June 30, 2026, at No. 6 Mount Blue Close, Leicester Village, in the Mountain Rural District. The stolen property belonged to former Bo District Member of Parliament and mayoral aspirant, Hon. Monyaba Koroma.
The court heard that the items stolen, valued at Le36,500, included two large cooking pots, five pairs of assorted crepes and two electric geese.
George was charged under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916. During the proceedings, he pleaded guilty to the offence and appealed to the court for mercy.
The prosecution informed the court that the convict had no previous criminal record.
In delivering his ruling, Magistrate Jah noted that the defendant had shown remorse and that his early guilty plea had saved the court valuable time and resources. Despite those mitigating factors, the magistrate found the offence sufficiently serious to warrant a custodial sentence.
George was consequently sentenced to four years’ imprisonment and ordered to serve his term at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown.
