The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has officially de-registered and revoked the certificates of 19 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating in Sierra Leone.

In a press release dated July 13, 2026, the Ministry stated that the revocations were issued with immediate effect due to persistent non-compliance with the NGO Policy framework and other statutory requirements.

The mass de-registration follows a nationwide comprehensive compliance verification exercise. According to the Ministry, this assessment revealed that several organizations failed to meet the minimum regulatory and operational standards required to maintain their legal status.

The Ministry cited the following specific grounds for revoking the certificates:

  • The organizations failed to maintain identifiable office premises, which is a requirement under the NGO Policy.
  • The organizations did not report any development interventions during the reviewed period.
  • The organizations failed to comply with mandatory statutory obligations, government laws, and regulatory requirements that govern NGO operations.

The 19 organizations that have been de-registered include:

  1. 523 International Alliance for the Eradication of Malaria
  2. Caravanes Solidaires
  3. Friends International Inc.
  4. Institute Mozdahir International
