Sierra Leone’s newly appointed Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Mustapha Sundifu Kabba, has unveiled a vision focused on improving healthcare delivery through stronger teamwork, accountability, coordination and quality services across the country’s health system.
Dr Kabba outlined his priorities during his first engagement with Directors, Programme Managers and Unit Heads from across the Ministry of Health. The meeting was held at the Ministry’s Conference Hall at Youyi Building and chaired by the Director of Hospital and Ambulance Services, Mr Ibrahim Foday-Musa.
Foday-Musa congratulated Dr Kabba on his appointment, describing it as timely and well deserved.
Addressing the meeting virtually from Germany, Dr Kabba said his vision is to build a more coordinated, accountable and results-driven health system capable of delivering better outcomes for patients and communities.
He stressed that every life matters and called for every death to be properly investigated so that lessons can be identified and measures put in place to prevent similar incidents.

Dr Kabba urged all directorates and programmes within the Ministry to align their activities with the 300 Days of Activism, Triple Zero agenda, National Hospital Strategy and other national health priorities.
He also emphasised the need to keep health facilities functional, safe and adequately prepared to provide quality healthcare services.
A key part of his vision is greater teamwork and collaboration across the health sector. Dr Kabba called on staff to break down institutional silos, communicate openly and work collectively to resolve challenges rather than seeking individual recognition for achievements delivered through joint efforts.
He further called for stronger coordination among Ministry leadership, directorates, District Medical Officers and Hospital Management Teams to ensure that national health policies translate into measurable improvements at health facilities.
Dr Kabba reminded healthcare workers of the responsibility they carry towards patients, who entrust their lives and wellbeing to the health system. He urged health managers and workers to remain focused on delivering services that meet the needs and expectations of the population.
In his closing remarks, the new CMO thanked Directors, Programme Managers and Unit Heads for their confidence and support. He pledged to work closely with health managers, healthcare workers and development partners to improve the effectiveness of the Ministry’s programmes and advance the national health agenda.
Dr Kabba maintained that achieving meaningful improvements in healthcare delivery will require collective action, reaffirming his commitment to working with stakeholders as one team to strengthen Sierra Leone’s health system and improve the lives of its people.
