The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning has reported the successful completion of a Boundary Harmonisation Event in Mapaki Village, Paki Masabong Chiefdom, Bombali District, as part of the ongoing Customary Land Rights Registration process.
The exercise, held on Friday, August 21, 2026, brought together land-owning families, community stakeholders and representatives from the National Land Commission, the Sierra Leone Land Administration Project (SLLAP) and Medici Land Governance (MLG).
The event provided a platform for community members and other stakeholders to collectively review, discuss and reach consensus on shared land boundaries.
During the session, Medici Project Coordinator Bankolay Turay presented and explained the proposed boundary map to participants. Community members subsequently engaged in discussions, raised questions and sought clarifications on the boundaries presented.
Following the discussions, participants proceeded with the verification of the map before the relevant parties signed Boundary Harmonisation Agreement (BHA) forms, formally documenting their agreement on the identified boundaries.
The Ministry said the successful completion of the exercise highlights the importance of community participation, transparency, dialogue and consensus-building in strengthening land governance and protecting customary land rights.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to ensure that customary land is properly recognised, documented and secured for communities and land-owning families.
The Ministry reaffirmed the importance of collaborative approaches in building a more transparent and accountable land administration system, with the goal of ensuring secure and recognised land rights for present and future generations.
