Sierra Leone’s lingering fuel scarcity is posing a serious challenge to many businesses as several long queues are visible in various Petrol stations across the country. Desperate private and commercial riders are being seen scrambling for fuel.

Popular Journalist, Kemo Cham has said the Sierra Leone Fuel scarcity is due to a deliberate plan by some Oil marketers to maximise profit by distorting supply.

The journalist posted on his Facebook page that “petroleum dealers have decided to hold an entire nation to ransom. Individuals desperate to make a profit, are putting their interests ahead of the countries. That’s the only reason for the current fuel crisis and nothing else.
It’s a well-known fact that fuel prices have gone down in the international market. While this is supposed to be good news for the common man, the dealers are concerned about the implication of selling their current stock at lower prices, the stock they have been hoarding all this time out of the same greed.
They have chosen to shut their stations, even at the risk of destroying the economy and causing suffering.
For many Sierra Leoneans, when they proclaim patriotism, it’s only when things are going fine for them.
These people have been doing this forever. Governments come and go, but their businesses remain ever-strong. Yet they are quick to shout about threats to their businesses.
Sadly, the majority of Sierra Leoneans can’t see the role of these invisible hands because of our toxic partisan politics,” He noted.

Meanwhile, the Sierra Leone Fuel Black Market has resulted in selling fuel at over 21NL per litre. It is observed with dismay that those who are gaining from the alleged artificial scarcity appear to be smiling home as a result of this ugly development and this has the potency to provoke innocent Sierra Leoneans against the government.

Those who are charged with the responsibility of taking control should do more to combat this ugly development without further delay to restore normalcy as a lot of people including government officials will be heading to their villages for Christmas celebrations.
