Two Sierra Leonean men were arrested and charged with robbing a Japanese businessman of US$30,000 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last month.

The alleged incident occurred on August 9th in front of a restaurant in a shopping mall in Brickfields. The victim, 58-year-old Hiroyuki Azuma, was approached by a group of men who threatened him and stole his cash.

Patrick Samba, 34, and Ibrahim Jalloh, 36, both from Sierra Leone, were apprehended and charged with robbery. A third suspect, Liberian Douglas Daniel Devine, was also arrested but pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The trio faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine, or whipping if convicted. The court denied bail due to concerns about their travel documents.

The case is set to resume on September 25th for further proceedings.
