Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Haja Ramatulai Wurie, has emphasised the importance of placing young people at the centre of decision-making and national development during the EU Youth Policy Dialogue and Music Event held to commemorate 50 years of partnership between the European Union and Sierra Leone.

The event brought together young people, government representatives, development partners, civil society organisations and members of the diplomatic community to discuss ways of strengthening youth participation in Sierra Leone’s development process.

Minister Wurie highlighted the importance of listening to the voices and experiences of young people, noting that effective policies are shaped by understanding the needs of those they are intended to serve. She stressed that young people should not remain on the margins of decision-making but must be actively involved in shaping the country’s future.

The dialogue also featured exhibitions and creative performances that showcased the talent, innovation and aspirations of Sierra Leonean youth.

The Minister reaffirmed the Government of Sierra Leone’s commitment to expanding access to quality higher education and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), ensuring that young people acquire the skills, knowledge and opportunities needed to contribute to national transformation.

She expressed appreciation to the European Union and other partners for creating platforms that promote meaningful youth engagement and for their continued support towards empowering the next generation.
