In a landmark election at the National Junior and Senior Secondary School in Kailahun, students have democratically chosen their new head boy, head girl, and other key ministerial positions.

Highlighting a historic moment in the school’s history since its inception in 1968, for the first time, a visually impaired female student has been elected to the pivotal role of deputy head girl.

The school’s unique election process involves candidates sending in their applications, which are then scrutinized by a committee comprising senior teachers and esteemed alumni. This rigorous selection phase culminates in interviews, after which the student body is given the opportunity to vote.

For the 2023/2024 academic year, Alex Moiwo of the Art faculty emerged as the head boy, with support from his deputy, Zachariah Condeh, from the Science faculty. The Commercial faculty’s Abie Marthia was elected as the head girl, with Magdalene H Corgay of the Art faculty standing by her side as the deputy head girl.

This democratic election reaffirms the school’s commitment to fostering leadership, diversity, and inclusivity among its students.
