Sierra Leonean musician Rap Gee has expressed his interest in attending a diaspora youth summit in the United States, calling on the Presidential Youth Envoy to include him on the list of attending artists.

On Friday, Sierra Leone’s Youth Envoy, Yulisa Ahmadu announced a Sierra Leone Diaspora Youth Summit coming up in April 2024 at Howard University, Washington DC.

Commenting on the post, Rap Gee Said: “Boss Pls Are Need This Chance To Attend This Summit. We Don Woke For This Party Bra” meaning, “Boss Please I need this chance to attend this summit, we have work for this party Boss.”

Rap Gee’s comment has divided opinions online, with some questioning his motives and others supporting his inclusion.

One Facebook user, Sigismond Benjamin, criticized Rap Gee’s request, stating, “This is not a situation where many of us musicians/entertainers/party people find ourselves after elections. If you don’t value your brand, they will buy you cheap… After all that is said and done, you want to run to another country for better opportunities, but a few months ago you were campaigning saying all is well. God does not like ugliness.”

However, others defended Rap Gee. Ibrahim Bobson Dumbuya commented, “It’s not bad for him to attend the summit, because he worked for the party. Let him wait for the party to organize their own summit and he can attend.”

Abraham F. Koroma offered a neutral perspective, stating, “The problem is not about him going to the Youth Summit, but the question is what is he going to contribute?”

Over the past few years, Rap Gee, often referred to as the “Eastern Kartel prodigy,” has risen through the ranks of Sierra Leone’s popular music scene. Notably, he played a significant role in the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP)’s 2023 election campaign, performing at numerous events alongside President Bio and his entourage.
