UK travel site, Wanderlust has listed Freetown among the top nine places to visit in Spring this year.

The site said that Freetown is excited to be visited this year due to the fact that the city just opened a new airport terminal that is five times bigger than the old one.

“It may not be the first African country that springs to mind for your spring trip, but Sierra Leonne tourists industry is set to change thanks to a brand new airport terminal which opened in Freetown in March,” the travel site said.

They stressed that the new terminal is the only green powered terminal in the entire sub-region.

Wanderlust UK also encourage spring travellers to visit the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary located at Regent Village, Western Rural District. The Sanctuary hosts hundreds of rescued chimpanzees and eco-lodges to stay overnight.

Some of the places listed in the top nine are in the UK or their territories. They include Channel Islands’ Guernsey and Yorkshire.

Other mentions include Washington DC, Monterrey County, Toronto, A Coruña, Al ula and Antigua and Barbuda.

Earlier this year, Time Magazine also listed the Freetown peninsula among the top 100 places to visit this year. Similar reasons listed by Wanderlust were also listed by Time except for the white Sandy beaches along the Freetown coast.
