The Blacksmith Union in Kailahun supports the agenda of the president of the Republic of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio to achieve in the Feed Salone Agenda.
The union according to the chairman Umaru Aruna is one of the backbones of the Feed Salone Agenda of the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Brigadier (Retired) Julius Maada Bio. He stressed that in order for the feed Salone Agenda to succeed, they are one of the major components that should be considered.
Chairman Umaru Aruna maintained that for agriculture to excel in the country they should value the Blacksmith as they are the manufacturers of local tools such as cutlasses, hoes, axes among others. He noted that modern commercialize tools like tractors, bulldozers, Power tillers among other are not in effective use in Kailahun since the farmers are not practicing commercial farming. That 99.9% farmers use the locally made farm tools.
Chairman Umaru Aruna registered his success stories since he was elected chairman over four years, such as; registering with the Kailahun district council, Ministry of Social Welfare and Ministry of Agriculture and Food security. He also underscored that he has established a loan scheme within his area of Jurisdiction in order to help other Blacksmiths achieve their aim. And that he has also established training centers in different locations to unify and improve on the union members.
He further encouraged youths within Kailahun to join the skill work, describing it as one the best works that has immediate reward for those who practice it.
Chairman Umaru Aruna however said that one of the major challenges they face as a union is lack of support from government, even when many promises have been made to them. He therefore called on the attention of the government and other humanitarian organizations to come to their aid and support them in order to succeed in the Feed Salone Agenda of the president of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio.
