A 5-year-old boy has lost his life in Sahn town, Malen chiefdom, Pujehun district, due to drowning in a drainage channel amidst heavy rainfall.

The incident occurred on June 28th 2024, when young Moreson Koroma tragically perished while attempting to cross the drainage to reach his home.

According to ASP Kenawa John Square, Media and Community Relations Officer of the Pujehun Police Division, the report was received at approximately 14:30 hours on the fateful day. Mohamed Koroma, the father of the deceased child, reported that his son had ventured into the drainage around 12:30pm during the downpour.

Upon receiving the report, a team of police officers led by Detective Sub Inspector Gomeh and accompanied by Mr. Masslin, the CHO of Sahn town, swiftly responded. They conducted a physical examination of the scene and the body, determining that there were no foul play indicators. Subsequently, the remains were handed over to the grieving family for burial, with the grave site marked for future reference.

ASP Kenawa John Square emphasized the importance of parental vigilance, particularly during the current rainy season, urging all parents to ensure the safety of their children. Investigations into the tragic incident are ongoing, with the police engaging closely with the family to gather statements and ascertain further details.

The community of Sahn town and beyond mourns the loss of young Moreson Koroma, underscoring the need for heightened awareness and preventive measures to avoid such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
