Common Wealth Business Women Africa has in collaboration with the Embassy of Liberia in Freetown, Diaspora Focus and Katanya Women Development Association join the Government of Sierra Leone and its international partners to celebrate the 2025 Education Week in Makeni City, Northern Sierra Leone.

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education has commenced its yearly Education Week at the University of Makeni, Makeni City.

The four days celebration is bringing together education stakeholders in the country, international partners, and school pupils to various educational activities which began on Monday, 20th January, 2025 to January 24th 2025 at University of Makeni playing grounds.

The theme for the 2025 Education Week is “Artificial Intelligence and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation”.

The event is scheduled to commence at 9 am and runs till 5 pm daily.

According to the Country Director of Commonwealth Business Women Africa, Madam Ann Marie King, her organization is partnering with the Liberia Embassy in Freetown, Diaspora Focus and Katanya Women Development Association to celebrate the Week because it’s a reflection of the organization’s vision and goals. Madam King said they complementing the efforts of the Education Ministries, President Bio and the International partners who are tirelessly doing their best to uplift Education in the country.

The other organizations she collaborated with, Madam King said are also catalysts in driving education forward which is why they all though it wise to work together to celebrate the event. As the event enters its second day, Common Wealth Business Women Africa and Katanya Women Development Association have displayed severeal of their locally made items.

The display of the items signalled the organization’s readiness in changing the narrative.

The Education Week is not only a celebration of the importance of Education but also a reflection of the goals that have been set up for the pupils and children of Sierra Leone and also the roadmaps that have been created to accomplish those goals.

The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, President Julius Maada Bio, the two Education Ministries, International partners and other stakeholders that are making Education easier from the classroom to the Office of the President are expected to make statements.

Like the past Weeks, this year’s celebration also brings school pupils and students from various Educational and learning institutions. Each of the institutions are showcasing its artificial intelligence reflecting on the theme for the 2025 Week.

The event also showcased Sierra Leone’s cherished culture and customs as the display of various traditional attires takes center stage.

 

Madam King said they will celebrate the event throughout the week. She called on the Government to support her dream in making Education reachable to everyone especially women in vulnerable communities.
